Newsletter Term 4 Week 6

Term 4 Week 6
19 November 2013

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Friends,

Such a lot is happening at school at the moment. I am so grateful for the tenacity and patience and positive approach of the staff at this school as we all try to manage balancing all the plates.  I know you know what that is like as well...
So what has been and is happening?
1. Production: Oh the Places You Will Go - we are in the last ten days of practice for this. Louise Pryde wrote the script after she recovered from last term's illness, and we are in full swing with short time availability. The staff are working so hard. Please ensure that you help them survive and thrive by ensuring that your children have thoroughly practiced all their lines with expression, and that they each have their costumes sorted.  See the newsletter they brought home with details.
2. Birthday Service: Thanks so much for joining with us on Sunday for our birthday service. It means a lot to build our story and our community, and I do appreciate that it also costs something in terms of your usual commitments. So thanks. CJ, Talia and John did a great job sharing about God's work in the world in the past and in our lives today.
3. Marae Visit: This is something we have wanted to do for a long time and it is finally happening. Please talk with your children about being respectful  as we learn together and build our understanding of our wider community in new ways.
4. Videoing: Brad and the camera man were here yesterday filming your children learning and talking about their learning. We will let you know when the video is complete and up on the professional development site for teachers. This is a privilege we are glad to be a part of. Thanks to our staff  for being so embracing of change and professional development for the benefit of your children.
5. Assessments and Reports: These are being completed now. The teachers have a skip in their hearts, and occasionally their steps, as we gather the data about learning and see the huge progress  we have made. Our writing results are exciting for us as this has  been an area of intentional focus. 83% of our learners are At or Above National Standards in Writing. The national average in 2012 for schools was 70% At or Above. This is a huge shift. This is a testimony to incredible diligence and focus in our teachers this year, and I thank them for their hard work.
6. Bible Fair. The senior class continue to work to prepare for our Bible Fair at the end of the year. They will have a week to complete them after Production.
7. Interschool Athletics. Our school did very well in the Interschools this year, and we have two reps going to the HBC Interschool Athletics on Thursday. Well done Kaleigh and Talia!!
8. Honouring Assemblies. These have been a delight to us. To publicly share with families in acknowledging what we love about each of our learners is a blessing that warms our hearts. We believe this is hugely influential in developing the children's sense of who they are and who they can become.
Please ensure that you can come to the Assembly this Friday if your child is in Room 3.
9. iPads. The donated iPads have arrived and are now set up for use. This is exciting for us for next year in particular.
10. Enrolment interviews. These are ticking on well. Please continue to encourage people to make enquiries. We have four children starting or started this term alone.

So, there is a lot on the boil. Please help us keep the plates spinning by ensuring your children get an early night, lots of sleep, and that they are well prepared for the Production.

Please also take the opportunities you can to thank the teachers who have gone above and beyond to ensure that learning is engaging and purposeful and successful for each individual child this year.

I think Mary, Vanessa and Louise are absolutely fantastic teachers, and more - great role models for your children.

Thanks
Helen Pearson

Buses
On the 22 November the College is having a half day so the buses that run from the college to Matakana and Matakana Valley Road will not run in the afternoon.  All other buses will be running.  The Mahurangi Christian School bus will go to Warkworth School and then on to the Library.

Congratulations Kaleigh Morris and Talia Carstensen
On Thursday Kaleigh and Talia will be competing in the Area Interschool Atheltics  at Hibiscus Coast after winning their events in the Local Interschool Athletics.  Kaleigh will be competing in shot put, discus and high jump and Talia in shot put. We know they will represent us well.

Kaleigh set a new record in the shot put competition so her name goes down in history. Well done Kaleigh you are a star!

Performance
We are excited about the upcoming performance of “Oh the Places You will Go” on Friday 29th November @7.00pm.  Close to half the tickets have been sold so get in quick to get tickets for your family. Please encourage friends and family to attend. It would be very encouraging for our children to play to a full house.

Tickets are available from the office and cost $10 per adult and $5 per child. We will be opening ticket sales up to the general public at the end of this week.
 We Need You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Christmas Market Fundraising
Mahurangi Christian School has been given the opportunity to run the sausage sizzle/cake stall at The Home Body & Beauty Market as a fundraiser so we would appreciate the support of all the MCS families.

An hourly roster has been set up in the office to add your name to so that we have enough people cooking sausages and selling cakes.  We will require 4 extra volunteers per hour from 9am – 2pm.  There is a total of 20 hours to fill so if you can give more than an hour that would be wonderful. Please call June early to get your name on your preferred spot in the roster.

No doubt about it out life would change!!!!!!!!
