Dear Parents, Friends
and Caregivers
You may have heard your
Year 3-8 learners discussing the use of Strong and Firm Footprints in the last
week, and evaluating whether they are using their words thoughtfully or
thoughtlessly. Staff are encouraged by the way the learners are engaging in
these ideas, and developing awareness of how they sometimes habitually speak in
thoughtless ways.
If you are able to reinforce
this terminology at home and reinforce the learning, you may well find it
helpful in your own home.
This week the children
are learning about Careful and Patient (Yellow) Footprints.
Careful and Patient
(Yellow) Footprints leave a light impact on others and like to stand still
rather than moving forward. Leaving a light impact on others means that
we listen rather than say what we think; we share decisions rather than saying
what we think should happen. “Standing still with someone” means we notice and
value what other people are saying and doing, rather than trying to get them to
do something else instead.
We use Careful and
Patient (Yellow) Footprints when we take time to notice what is going on around
us, listen to what other people say before jumping in with our own opinions,
are patient with people who can’t do something or are slowing things down, look
out for those who are left out or may be left behind so they can be included,
let other people make their own choices and decisions, or do things slowly and
carefully rather than rushing and risking getting things wrong.
When we use Careful and
Patient (Yellow) Footprints, thoughtfully we can leave other people feeling noticed, welcomed and included,
listened to, trusted, respected and accepted.
Jesus used all four types of ‘footprint’. In walking closely with
his Father, he knew which to use when. At times, he used careful and patient
footprints, such as when he ate with the tax collectors and known sinners, when
he spoke with the woman at the well, when he welcomed and included children,
when he was prayerful and committing people and problems to God, listening to
God and following his father. As the author of this programme says, "There is no formula to explain the gospel. Jesus listened to the person in front of him and stepped carefully into the space they inhabited and brought the presence of God into that space in which the gospel was the response of love of God for that person in their brokenness."
In teaching children to
choose the right footprint at the right time, we are teaching them to develop
self-regulation... the ability to choose the optimal response in a given
situation. As Christians, this requires spiritual wisdom and spiritual
discipline. So often we act in a way that meets our own needs; to serve others
is to find our identity and fulfillment in Him.
Please help your Year
2-8 children this week to identify use of Careful and Patient (Yellow)
Footprints at home and to discuss whether they have been used thoughtfully or
thoughtlessly.
Younger children may
catch on as well. However, please continue to remind Years 0-1 learners to
be Bucket-fillers (filling people’s buckets with kind words and actions) rather
than Bucket-dippers (using unkind words and actions).
Thanks for working
together with us.

Honouring Assemblies - Reminder
We always look forward to honouring each and every child in the school
in Term 4. Please diarise these Honouring Assemblies and invite grandparents
and special people who are close to your child. You will be asked to stand with
your child and 1-2 family representatives per child will say a few words that
you value about him/her. This sounds more scary than it is, as everyone does
it, and we start the process by saying what we as a school see and value in
your child. A wonderful opportunity to encourage your child.
Bus Notice
Next Wednesday the College finishes early so
our afternoon bus will still run but please note the following:
·
The MCS bus will go straight to Warkworth
Primary then to the library.
·
There will be no bus 3 (Whangateau), 6
(Matakana Valley), or 15 (Ahuroa) at 3.25pm from the college. So any MCS
children who catch these buses will have to find their own way home.
Slippery Slide on
Friday
As part of our midterm ‘Green Day Treat’ we will be putting out a slippery
slide for the Year 0-3 students that have at least 10 Green days. These
children will need their togs, a towel and sunscreen if they wish to
participate.
Rainbows End trip: Years 5-8
In Brief:
1. Generous donation allows cheap tickets
2. Date change
3. Transport needed
We are blessed to have a generous donation towards all Year 5-8
learners visiting Rainbow's End. Ticket prices are usually $44 per child, plus
transport. However, Zane's mum, Debbie Renahan saw that Rainbows End had
Rainbow Care Days for schools at a reduced price at the end of the year and, as
she was going to invite a number of Zane's classmates there for his birthday,
she has offered to significantly subsidise the entire Year 5-8 class and
provide transport for half the class. This brings the price down to $17
including transport.
This is such a generous offer, we decided that we would make it
a fun school trip.
The date we advertised was the 8 December. However, we have
learnt that the park has 1000 school children attending that day. Therefore,
the date will be changed to Tuesday 18 November - a date in which
there are only 400 children and we will enjoy the day a whole lot more.
We will need transport for approximately 12 people. Please email
Louise if you would like to transport.
Anniversary Church Service
For the last three years, we have met at the Snells Beach
Baptist Church around our anniversary, as a way of valuing this church for
their input in our school, and also so that they can pray for us.
The church or its members founded our school, owns our
buildings, are responsible for the direction of the school through their
elected proprietors, generously sponsor or part-sponsor many of our learners'
attendance dues, work with the Board of Trustees to ensure the Special
Character of our school, and faithfully pray for our school.
This year, we do not have an expectation of attendance, but do
warmly invite, and encourage attendance from, as many of you as are able to
join us. Individual children may be asked to attend for specific purposes.

We received $298 to spend on sportsgear, our record. Well done collectors
please continue to collect towards next years collection. New sheets have been
issued today.
iPads/Tablets: A great Christmas Idea
All children in Years 4-8 will need their own
iPad for 2015.
This can be 'borrowed' from the school for a
small charge $5 per week, or purchased through the school for $20 per week.
It is to your child's advantage to have the
ability to take their iPad home to continue with homework and research. This is
easier if your child has his/her own iPad.
You may like to consider giving your child an
iPad for Christmas. Any tablet is fine. However, an iPad will be easier for
teachers and learners as all apps will be the same.
All children in the school will be required to
have their own personal set of headphones next year. So something else that
could become part of the Christmas list if they do not already have some.
available
to help please let us know. Start time 9.30 finish by lunchtime.
Headlice
Unfortunately,
we have had another report of headlice in the school. Please make Tuesday headlice
check and treat day. If we all do this we would be able to eradicate the
problem from our school.
Term Dates
Last
day of school for the year will be Tuesday 16th December at 1.30,
the bus will leave when school finishes.
First
day of school for 2015 is Monday 2nd February.
Open Days/Try Days
In term
four we will have Open Days/Try Days every Tuesday for anybody who would like
to see the school in action and prospective students. If you know anybody who
is interested in the school please encourage them to come and check us out.
