Term 4 Week 4
5 November 2013
Dear
Parents, Friends and Caregivers,
This is a very full term for us, and we are now reflecting on, and assessing your children thoroughly. We look forward to seeing Room 1 parents and friends attending if possible on Friday for our first Honouring assembly in which we celebrate the things we as children and teachers, think are special about each child in this class.
Thank you to those of you who have visited our Facebook page, liked a post, commented on a post, shared a post, and especially thanks to those of you who have liked our page.
As we live in a highly internet-connected world of social media, this is a most significant way of supporting our school and helping us to spread the word about our school to a wide audience.
We are thrilled to hear of lots of discussions about the school happening in the community as a result of this initiative.
This week over 1000 people have read about our school online.
Please like our page and posts and share pictures of your children at work and the exciting things happening in our school.
Please also consider asking your friends, parents and grandparents to like our page as well.
A number of people have either moved or are considering moving, into the area so their children can attend Mahurangi Christian School, and so the more we can spread the news about our school, even widely within NZ, the better.
At this stage we have had a good number of enquiries from people about enrolments for next year. Please keep our roll number in your prayers. God is at work in this community, and we are pleased to be a small part of what God is up to. This school was started in order to be a blessing to the community by providing Christian education. We have capacity for another 80 children in our school before we burst at the seams!
We are excited about the future.
Thanks for being on board. We look forward to celebrating lots of good progress and learning with you as we bring the term to a close.

you no longer need, please let us know. We would love to take them off your
hands.
Library Helpers
We need a group of four computer literate volunteers to
help for the week of 25th to 29th of November in order to help
process books for our stocktake. This can be a fun time if a few people can
assist for a morning/afternoon or two or three, and we are happy to provide
morning tea. Please click here to register your willingness to help. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Kthdn0LiQH9ANzZ-Eup2hKugwPjPZcfgEs-Ggkx0w08/viewform

have any library books or sports equipment at home, ensure that it is returned
as soon as possible. All library books must be returned by next Friday (15th
November).
Sunscreen and Hats
Sunscreen and Hats
It is a good idea to sunscreen your child, or to provide
sunscreen to apply as we move towards summer. Children without hats are not
permitted to play at intervals unless they do so in the shade. Please ensure
they have their hats daily.
Tennis Racquets
Tennis Racquets
If you have any spare unwanted racquets lying around
home, we would love to make use of them!
Parent Survey
We would like to have more feedback from you about the school
for the purposes of assessing ourselves and making plans and priorities for
next year. Please can you, if you didn't do it at the end of last term,
complete the short online survey here as soon as possible?
Thanks
Marae
Visit
We are visiting Te Hana
Marae on November 20th. All
details are in the separate letter you have received. We would love as many of
you as possible to join us on this trip.
Please try to clear the day so you can attend.

support us by collecting orders. A
Chocolate Brown Voucher will be won by the family who sell the most. Order
sheets with money must be returned by 15th November. The Buddy Kits
are available for viewing in the office.
Changes
in Child Restraint Laws
Please
note that from 1 November, the law says that you must:
-correctly secure your child in an approved
restraint until their 7th birthday
-correctly secure your child in an approved child
restraint if one is available in the vehicle (and if not, in any child
restraint or safety belt that is available) from their 7th birthday until
their 8th birthday
To
find out more about the law and what a suitable child restraint is under the
new law, please click on the link below:
Please note that for school trips we need
appropriate car seats to be provided by parents for the day. Please
also note that the police will be enforcing this law.
Production
We will be producing a school musical performance at the end of
the year on 29th November.
If you would like to help with musical, dance or dramatic
aspects of the performance preparation, prop development or costumes, or
lighting and sound, please click here https://docs.google.com/a/mahu.school.nz/forms/d/1BepJG6Ejhfoai4XLgwl08mlwWDbEc8iA4VC0Md6C7go/viewform
Video being made about MCS for professional development of NZ
Teachers
On 18 November, we will be visited by a professional video team
so that a short movie can be made about our school and the progress we have
made in e-learning during the last 18 months. The facilitator is excited by
what is happening here and thinks that other schools throughout the country
need to know about it to help them in their own journeys!
If you don’t want your child to be filmed
please advise the office.

Honouring Assemblies
See your child get a special honour
Our End of Term Celebration Assemblies this
year have focused on those learners who have made the most outstanding Progress
during that term.
Our End of Year Prizegivings focus on those
learners who have had the most outstanding Achievement.
This term we are holding special Honouring
Assemblies in which we will honour people within our school community.
Please note that all individuals in our school
will be specially honoured in an assembly that focuses on their particular
Room. Please do try to come along to the Room 1, 2, or 3 assembly on the dates
below to see your child presented with a special certificate that
honours the things that we appreciate about them. This will enable us to
celebrate those things that impress us about each person, and will ensure that
all our learners will know how much we value them regardless of progress or
achievement.
Please book in the dates now, and invite friends
and grandparents and prepare to bring a plate to share for a class
party/morning tea for all learners and guests
celebrating with us. If there are extra curricula skills developed, or you have
noticed significant improvement in your child at home in some way, feel free to
let us know.
Honouring Assemblies: Honour our helpers and
volunteers
