Week 8, Term 2

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Friends,

As I was driving to school this morning, I was thinking about how grateful to God I was for the beauty around me and I couldn't help but stop to take a photo of one of the views on my way to work. Being grateful is a spiritual practice that I want to become better at developing in myself, and also in our children. So here's the photo for you to enjoy as well.

While away sick last week, I updated our blog. You might be grateful for that! LOL!

OUR COMMUNITY
The community you build around your children, the connections you have within that community and the way you care will be some of the most powerful and formative influences on your child's view of the world.

Today I want to let you know of several ways of getting involved with our school community in the next few weeks.

Survey:
Please check out and complete the Parent Group Survey below and let us know how you can be involved:
Click here to complete the survey  NOW if possible!

Assembly:
We have assemblies at 9.10 every Friday morning followed by morning tea for the parents, almost always with sausage rolls to keep Adam Waterhouse happy! Do come along and join us and watch the kids having fun and presenting their work.

Join our Closed Facebook School Community Group
See the survey for details

Meeting the Teacher:
Meet the Teacher Meetings on Wednesday 22nd July (first week in Term 2) 1.30pm onwards. You will be able to book a time soon.
Always feel free to make a time to meet with the teacher. We are doing reports at present, but hope to catch up with some of you before the end of term.

Celebration Assembly:
We will be having our Celebration Assembly on the last day of term and we would love you to come to see all our kids get awards and present their learning in a more formal way. Please make this a priority. Your kids love it when you come.

Working Bee:
We are having our first working bee in a very long time straight after the Celebration Assembly on the last day of term. Children need to stay to work as well, unless they are too little and not happy to play. We would love everyone who can to come and help. Homemade soup and bread for lunch, and lots of fun resulting in a smart looking school.

Parent meeting
We will have an important parent meeting on 4 August at 7pm for ALL parents. At this we would like to update you with progress about the school ownership, share vision and hear your thoughts. We will also give you some background on Feuerstein, a programme we are using with the children to develop their thinking and character.

Don't forget the survey!

Looking forward to building a great community with you.

SCHOOL NEWS
Teacher only day
We will be having a teacher only day on Monday 27th July, which is the second week of Term 3.

Headlice
Unfortunately, we have had a report of headlice in the school.  It is important that you check your child’s hair, and treat for head lice if required, to help prevent head lice spreading.  Check the hair of every member of the household. If you find live head lice on anyone, treat them as well. Do not treat everyone “just in case”.   It is a good idea to wash hair ties and hair brushes.

Please make Tuesday headlice check and treat day.  If we all do this we would be able to eradicate the problem from our school.

Parking
1.     We keep growing and need to moderate our parking arrangements accordingly.
2.      Please park on the gravel carpark
3.      Please park on the right hand side of the driveway (not next to the church) or at the              end of the carpark nearest the school field
4.      Please, if you arrive early, back up so that visibility is improved as you leave.
5.      Please wait until your child is dismissed by the teacher before allowing him or her to              run across the park

School Crossing
The school pedestrian crossing is supervised during the following times:
  •          8.45am – 8.50am
  •          3.00 – 3.05pm

Parent Group Meeting
The parent group will be running Friday Lunches again this Friday.

The Parent group are still wanting to collect the following items:
  •         1.5litre Bottles
  •         Cans with tabs still attached
  •          Breakfast Cereal boxes

Could you please drop them to the school office.

Wanted:
Newspaper
Mrs Allen is looking for old newspapers to use in her classroom.  Please can you drop in any old newspapers into Room 1.

Vege Garden
We are wanting to start the school vegetable garden again and are looking for clear plastic roofing that can be used over the gardens to protect the plants.  If you have any that is no longer required then please contact the school office.  We are also after egg shells to help keep the snails away. Thanks to Mitre 10 for donating seedlings.

The hockey draw this week is:

MCS Rockets vs KF Small Sticks  8.30am Field 1
SB Snapdragons vs WW Marlins – 10.10am Field 1 / 2
SB Strikers vs Leigh Longfins - 11.00am Field 3 /4
