Newsletter Week 1 Term Four 2014

Dear Parents, Friends and Caregivers

Welcome back to the last term!

We especially welcome new students Bella Lund, Samuel Lund, Sofia Lund, Kipp Cassidy, Brylee Blackie,  Samuel Gerrand, Taiwera Arama and their parents Marcus and Alice Lund, Hadley and Paula Blackie, Matt and Courtney Gerrand.

Once again, the term is jam-packed with great learning opportunities, with a big focus on the arts, in which we are reminded that God is creative and that we can have great joy and fulfilment as we respond to thoughts and ideas we see and feel with creativity.

Events and learning opportunities this term include how-to-draw classes, an introduction to NZ contemporary artists and thinking about art, lots of art practise, an art exhibition, swimming lessons, cross-country, athletics, choir, creative thinking classes, fireworks, and a zoo trip or Rainbows End for specific groups of learners.  And that is without all the other ongoing learning.

Please see our website for more information: Upcoming Events, and the Events Calendar on the right of the blog or at Calendar.

Honouring Assemblies: We always look forward to honouring each and every child in the school in Term 4. Please diarise these Honouring Assemblies and invite grandparents and special people who are close to your child. You will be asked to stand with your child and 1-2 family representatives per child will say a few words that you value about him/her. This sounds more scary than it is, as everyone does it, and we start the process by saying what we as a school see and value in your child. A wonderful opportunity to be encourage your child.
Dates:
Rooms 3 & 4      24th and 31st October
Room 2             7th and 14th November
Room 1             21st and 28th November
We will give you the exact date for your child next week.

Camp: We are well into the swing of next year’s February camp. This is a great community-building time, as we encourage all families to come and be involved with us at camp for one or two days (yes you can stay overnight and bring preschoolers). Our 2014 camp was a great success.

Please everybody come to the Camp meeting tonight, 7pm, as advertised last term, to learn more about the camp.

We look forward to seeing you!

Helen Pearson

Yummy Apple Stickers
Please continue to collect yummy stickers as any collected now will help next year’s sports gear fundraising. If you need collection sheets please ask at the office.

School Uniform Hats
Unfortunately we have not yet received our school hats so in the interim children can wear any hat. Children without hats will have to play in the shaded areas during playtimes.

We will advise you of the cost and when the hats are expected to arrive as soon as possible. School hats are not a compulsory uniform item but please see below as to what hats are acceptable under our policy.

School Uniform hats will be sand coloured and one size fits all.

 Summer Uniform
Students can wear black sandals rather than black socks and shoes during the summer.  A hat is compulsory if your child is in the playground.

Our policy states : “require students to wear hats which protect the face, neck and ears, whenever they are outside and involved in school activities. Students at school without a hat must remain in an allocated shaded area or inside at break times. Hats must be broad-brimmed (min 7.5cm), or legionnaire/bucket hats (min 6cm brim, deep crown). These hats provide significant protection to the eyes”.

Sunhats are expected to be available from the uniform shop from week three of term 4.

In term four we will have Open Days/Try Days every Tuesday for anybody who would like to see the school in action and prospective students. If you know anybody who is interested in the school please encourage them to come and check us out.
